Sept. 11 marked a shockingly successful attack by a stateless and relatively small group of Islamist militants. 

The U.S., though, launched a massive military response: a War on Terror. It attacked two countries, one uninvolved with 9/11.

The rhetoric was so sweeping, Washington borrowed language  from World War II and the Cold War. America was now confronting an Axis of Evil.

Kärninflationstakten, det vill säga exklusive mat och energi, i USA landade på 2,4 procent i augusti.
Inflationstakten, mätt som KPI, kom in på 3,4 procent.

Det skrämde först marknaden, men sedan nåddes ett konsensus om att det var goda nyheter. 



US inflation remains elevated, with a broad range of underlying measures ranging from 2.4% to 3.3%. 
Inflation has exceeded the central bank’s 2% objective for more than five years. 

3 percent inflation looks like it may be here to stay.


The bad-news-is-good-news stock market

Efter två dagar i rött fick Stockholmsbörsen fart uppåt av amerikanska inflationssiffror – och den tunga börsveckan avslutade i grönt.
Under eftermiddagen har dock räntorna stigit något igen, och uppgången på Stockholmsbörsen lugnade sig.

Stocks, Bonds Fall in Asia on Oil, Inflation

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index fell 1.3%, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average sinking 2.2%. Brent crude traded at $105.36 a barrel after earlier rising to almost $110. 

Bonds came under further pressure after the US Treasury bought back fewer securities than investors had anticipated on Thursday, pushing 10-year yields to the cusp of 5%.

The interest rate on 30-year US Treasury bonds has hit a 19-year high of 5.35 per cent. 

The piling up, year after year, of historically large budget deficits — currently running at around 6 per cent of GDP — has doubled interest payments as a share of GDP over that period to 3.2 per cent.

Though a brilliant geneticist, Henry Wallace, FDR’s third-term vice president, and a hero to many progressives, lost his place on the 1944 Democratic ticket, was a self-obsessed political figure, blind to the manipulations of aides—many of whom were Soviet agents and assets.

As vice president, he toured a Potemkin Siberian continent, guided by undercover Soviet security and intelligence officials who hid labor camps and concealed prisoners. 

He then wrote a book, together with an American NKGB journalist source, hailing the region’s renaissance under Bolshevik leadership.
