Solar panels at the CATL Luoyang base in Henan province. On a production line in south-east China, machines paste a black slurry of electrode material on to a copper ribbon just five microns thick — one 20th of the width of a human hair. Further down the line, a team of robots monitored by an AI quality inspection system will turn the strips into battery cells by cutting them with lasers, winding them into rolls and pressing them with a force equivalent to a 23-tonne weight. The factory is at the Ningde headquarters of CATL, the world’s biggest battery producer and a goliath in the electric car industry. Gordon Brown

The former Labour prime minister expressed dismay over his inability to convince the public that progressive policies “were the right and fairest way to respond” to the global recession. “Taming globalisation and redirecting it to meet the interests of working people has been, and still is, the defining political challenge of our era.” Gordon Brown https://englundmacro.blogspot.com/2025/07/gordon-brown.html Jonung, Fölster och Flash Gordon om Euron I Sverige är det fd Röda Kors-chefen Bengt Westerberg som är styrelseordförande i Finansinspektionen. Alistair Darling

Chancellor of the Exchequer under prime minister Gordon Brown from 2007 to 2010. One Sunday in October 2008, Alistair Darling flew back from Washington to find Britain on the brink of banking meltdown.  The chancellor was told by his Treasury officials that unless a rescue plan was announced by the time the City opened for business the following morning, there was no guarantee that cashpoints would work and that cheques would be honoured. The possibility of global financial implosion concentrated minds wonderfully; bailout plans were announced that ensured disaster was averted. Co-ordinated and collective action meant there was no return to the 1930s, and within six months most countries were recovering. https://englundmacro.blogspot.com/2025/07/alistair-darling.html
