Magdalena Andersson has big plans for Europe 

In an exclusive interview with POLITICO conducted on election day, the Social Democrat leader set out her mission to refocus Swedish foreign policy — and to give the EU more muscle. 

Andersson wants to scrap the rule granting a veto right to every EU member country on foreign policy. “I think it should be qualified majority … on foreign policy,” she said, 

One area where EU leaders tried — and famously failed — to get a unanimous agreement was on whether or not to use Russia’s financial assets, lying immobilized in a Brussels depository, to help fund Ukraine’s mounting costs of defending itself. Efforts to secure a deal foundered last year on legal concerns from Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever.

The debate was revived in recent weeks by a group of countries led by Germany. What does Andersson think should happen to the assets? “Take them, use them,” she said

Cognitive blind spots are undermining our ability to see the world as it is, rather than as we would like it to be. At the start of the 21st century, western elites generally assumed that globalisation, democracy and the free market were self-evidently good, and would keep spreading, creating peace. N o longer.  FIS, Swiss Federal Intelligence Service, has published a manual about cognitive blind spots. 18 different cognitive biases that hamper our thinking, such as “group think” (adhering to the cosy assumptions of our tribe), “anchoring” (relying exclusively on whatever information we see first, say on social media),  “confirmation bias” (only seeing data that reinforces pre-existing views),  “mirror imaging” (assuming others think like us),  “absence of evidence” bias (failing to think about the data we lack)  and “survivorship bias” (judging data only with success stories, not failures).
