Venezuela is home to the largest proven oil reserve on Earth

The Trump administration just struck a country with more oil than Iraq. 

Venezuela is sitting on a massive 303 billion barrels worth of crude — about a fifth of the world’s global reserves, according to the US Energy Information Administration. That trove of crude will play a central role in the country’s future.

International sanctions on the Venezuelan government and a deep economic crisis contributed to the decline of the country’s oil industry 

Maduro’s removal opens the possibility of a power vacuum, which could put the future of Venezuelan politics in doubt. 

The United States recognizes the exiled Edmundo Gonzalez as the rightful president of Venezuela, supported by 2025 Nobel Peace Prize recipient María Corina Machado.

Yankee-imperialismen tillbaka i full skala

För Trump – som vänslas med efterlysta misstänkta krigsförbrytare som Vladimir Putin och Benjamin Netanyahu – har det förstås ingen betydelse att anfallet mot Venezuela är ett brott mot internationell rätt, kanske också mot USA:s egen lagstiftning.

Men för omvärlden är det en bekräftelse på att USA inte är att räkna med som en uppbackare av folkrätten, utan har sällat sig till Kina och Ryssland i en internationell ordning där stormakterna fördelar världen mellan sig i inflytelsezoner.
