The European Union is ready to strike back
at Donald Trump over his tariff threats as he seeks to take Greenland,
according to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
USA:s president Donald Trump och Natos generalsekreterare Mark Rutte har utformat ett ramverk för ett framtida avtal gällande Grönland. Det innebär att USA blåser av sitt tullhot mot en rad europeiska länder – däribland Sverige.
Vid stängning hade S&P 500 stigit 1,2 procent, och räknat från Stockholmsbörsens stängning hade det breda indexet adderat 0,2 procent. Även Dow Jones industriindex och Nasdaq Composite klättrade 1,2 procent vardera.

What we are seeing is a slow-motion erasure of the operating systems of the global economic and political orders.
The fact that the recovery from the economic impact of the pandemic has been so strong is cheering. It is due, not least, to the effectiveness of vaccines, for whose development Donald Trump, with his Operation Warp Speed, bore much responsibility.
The contrast with the attitude to vaccines of his second administration is stupefying.
So, let us turn to what does matter to them: global economic prospects in a world subject to the whims of a mad despot. (Yes: his desire to own Greenland is mad and his imposition of taxes at will is despotic.)
As the recovery from the pandemic tells us, the world economy has great momentum: it has, after all, grown substantially in every year since 1950.
