Pragvåren och invasionen var det viktigaste och mest bestående av allt som brukar betecknas som "68".
Det som då hände visade att kommunismen inte lät sig reformeras, att den därför i praktiken var dödsdömd. På den tiden förstod väl ingen detta utom möjligen Leonod Bresnjev och hans politbyrå i Moskava.
Michail Gorbatjov förstod det inte ens långt senare.

Scott Bessent takes on bond vigilantes in $32tn Treasury market
“[Bessent] understands the problem. But understanding the problem and being able to do something material about it are two different things,” said Jim Caron, chief investment officer at Morgan Stanley Investment Management.
Most investors expect the Treasury to balance higher buybacks of long-term securities by issuing more short-term debt — a move that leaves the department exposed to fluctuations in interest rates.
It has not gone unnoticed that Bessent in 2024 criticised former Treasury secretary Janet Yellen for pursuing a similar policy.

The euro was not a German project. Quite the reverse. German voters wanted to hold on to their currency. It was pressed by those, led by France, who wanted to break the D-Mark zone.
The euro was the price Helmut Kohl paid to Mitterrand to win his blessing for reunification.
