Bloomberg Editorial Fed would be wiser to pause; US ever more exceptional
Investors expect the Federal Reserve to cut its policy rate on Oct. 29, and once more by the end of the year, but the case for cutting is weak.
Core consumer-price inflation remains well above the central bank's target, and unemployment is still in line with the bank's mandate of "maximum employment".
The Fed would be wiser to pause due to enormous uncertainty about where the economy is headed, with the inflation outlook and labor market trends being equally murky.
