Europa hukar sig för värmebölja: ”Exceptionella temperaturer”

UK and Europe  snapshot of their new climate.

We might only be a few days into July, but two record-breaking summer heatwaves have already provided the UK and Europe with a snapshot of their new climate.

Hot on the heels of May's heat, June saw temperature records not only broken but smashed in what the UN's weather agency called an "extraordinary" event across the continent.

And after a brief period of respite, another heatwave is on the way.

If this feels unusual, that is because it is.

RE 30 juni 2026: Många av mina bästa vänner är klimatförnekare. De anser att det rör sig om normala svängningar i klimatet, istiden and all that.

Andra anser att det beror på våra utsläpp av växthusgaser.

Tonläget kan bli högt i debatten dem emellan.

Men tänk om båda har rätt. 

Då är det verkligen illa. 


Heatwave breaks records in Germany, Denmark and Czech Republic

Germany set a new all-time high for the second day in a row, as temperatures reached 41.5C, according to provisional data.

On Saturday, records also fell in Denmark and the Czech Republic as the unprecedented early summer heatwave moved further north and east affecting more people.

An estimated 150 million people in Europe are now experiencing temperatures of over 35C.

Daytime highs are forecast to climb as high as 42C in western France through Thursday, while parts of Spain will reach 44C on Tuesday.

Temperatures in southern England will climb to a peak of at least 39C on those days, which would shatter the existing June record of 35.6C, according to the Met Office; 23 June.

Myndigheterna varnar för temperaturer uppemot 40 grader.

– Det kommer bli svåra dagar, sa Frankrikes president Emmanuel Macron inför värmeböljan och uppmanade franska medborgare till ”stor vaksamhet”.

This episode is striking due to its intensity (with temperatures above 35°C), its early arrival, its duration (about 10 days), and its regional reach, as it is affecting all of Western Europe, including the United Kingdom and Ireland.

En omfattande värmebölja med temperaturer kring 40 grader lamslår delar av Europa. 

I Frankrike har regeringen utfärdat ett förbud mot alkoholförsäljning under en årlig musikfestival.

På söndagen infaller den årliga statligt finansierade musikfestivalen Fête de la Musique, som firas runtom i hela Frankrike. I fjol deltog omkring två miljoner människor i evenemanget bara i Paris.

Cognitive blind spots are undermining our ability to see the world as it is, rather than as we would like it to be. At the start of the 21st century, western elites generally assumed that globalisation, democracy and the free market were self-evidently good, and would keep spreading, creating peace. N o longer.  FIS, Swiss Federal Intelligence Service, has published a manual about cognitive blind spots. 18 different cognitive biases that hamper our thinking, such as “group think” (adhering to the cosy assumptions of our tribe), “anchoring” (relying exclusively on whatever information we see first, say on social media),  “confirmation bias” (only seeing data that reinforces pre-existing views),  “mirror imaging” (assuming others think like us),  “absence of evidence” bias (failing to think about the data we lack)  and “survivorship bias” (judging data only with success stories, not failures).
