Wall Street surnar till – skakig vapenvila oroar

Googles ägarbolag Alphabet handlas runt nollan efter att aktien föll nära 4 procent i går. Säljtrycket kom efter att teknikjätten meddelat att man vill ta in 80 miljarder dollar via en nyemission för att finansiera AI-investeringar. 

I dag har det beloppet höjts till 84 miljarder - dollar.

US forces intercepted Iranian ballistic missiles and drones aimed at neighboring Middle East countries and struck a command center in Iran in response.

The exchange followed days of Israeli military escalation against Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon, prompting a phone call between President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Tensions remain high after the US attacked Iranian radar and command-and-control sites, with Iran trying to target an air base in retaliation and the US and Israel having different ideas about what an end to the war should look like.

US and Iran launch new strikes as ceasefire negotiations stalled.
The US military says it has launched "self-defence" strikes on Iran and shot down ballistic missiles and drones fired at ships and Gulf countries.

Russian air defenses shot down drones over the Leningrad region around St. Petersburg, Governor Alexander Drozdenko said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his forces had struck the Petersburg Oil Terminal and “purely military targets” at Russia’s Kronstadt naval base.
The attack comes as St. Petersburg hosts Russia’s main annual international economic forum, which officials from 76 countries are due to attend.

Telekomjätten Ericsson, verkstadsbolaget ABB och molntjänstbolaget Sinch är några av börsens formstarkaste aktier just nu, enligt Di:s genomgång av de bolag på Stockholmsbörsen som handlas närmast sina treårshögsta stängningskurser.

Flera av bolagen i listan har redan bjudit aktieägarna på en imponerande resa. Sivers Semiconductors har rusat med 2.000 procent bara i år medan Acast har stigit med över 400 procent på tre år.

The Trump administration on Tuesday proposed new tariffs that would come into force just as an existing levy expires.

In February, President Donald Trump invoked Section 122 of the U.S. Trade Act to impose a 10% tariff, just as the Supreme Court invalidated tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.

That authority is set to expire on July 24. Now, the Office of the Trade Representative is proposing new tariffs, of between 10% and 12.5%, on 60 different economies based on alleged use of forced labor.

EU till Sverige: Ta bort era gränskontroller

I över tio år har Sverige haft ”tillfälliga” gränskontroller mot Danmark, i strid mot EU-reglerna. Nu har EU-kommissionen fått nog och uppmanar Sverige att avskaffa dem.

Just nu håller EU på att införa nya regler för asyl och migration, med bland annat skärpt kontroll vid unionens yttre gränser.

”Vi håller på att införa världens modernaste gränsförvaltningssystem. Med detta på plats kan medlemsstaterna (…) fasa ut kontrollerna vid de inre gränserna”, sade EU:s migrationskommissionär Magnus Brunner.

Begränsningar för uttag

Aktien i det schweiziska riskkapital- och investeringsbolaget Partners Group föll med 12 procent i onsdagens inledande handel på Zürichbörsen efter att företaget infört begränsningar för uttag ur en av sina fonder i samband med ökat uttagstryck, skriver Bloomberg.

Det schweiziska bolaget är en av pionjärerna inom så kallade evergreen-fonder. Till skillnad från traditionella riskkapitalfonder har evergreen-fonder ingen fast slutpunkt utan ger normalt investerare möjlighet att löpande lösa in åtminstone en del av sina innehav varje kvartal.

Nyheten sätter även press på övriga riskkapitalbolag i Europa. EQT handlas ned med 6,5 procent på Stockholmsbörsen. CVC faller samtidigt med omkring 4 procent i Amsterdam, medan brittiska ICG sjunker med drygt 5 procent.

Tidigare i våras begränsade fler amerikanska aktörer uttag ur så kallade private credit-fonder.

Swiss Private-Equity Giant Caps Investor Withdrawals, Sparking Share Selloff

Shares in Partners Group fell as much as 18% on Wednesday, which if sustained would be the biggest daily drop in the company’s shares since it listed in 2006.

There are two possibilities. One is that something important is indeed happening. But markets cannot estimate the returns and are being driven into a speculative frenzy.

But we will be left, as we were after, say, the railway booms of the 19th century and the dotcom bubble of the 1990s, with useful infrastructure: tracks, in the case of the former, and fibre optic cable, in the case of the latter. 
Such bubbles can transform the world.

The other possibility is that AI is nonsense. The Mississippi and South Sea bubbles of the early 18th century in France and England come to mind: they burst, ruined some, and changed little.

If it develops in the ways that seem likely, it might change almost everything.

Cognitive blind spots are undermining our ability to see the world as it is, rather than as we would like it to be. At the start of the 21st century, western elites generally assumed that globalisation, democracy and the free market were self-evidently good, and would keep spreading, creating peace. N o longer.  FIS, Swiss Federal Intelligence Service, has published a manual about cognitive blind spots. 18 different cognitive biases that hamper our thinking, such as “group think” (adhering to the cosy assumptions of our tribe), “anchoring” (relying exclusively on whatever information we see first, say on social media),  “confirmation bias” (only seeing data that reinforces pre-existing views),  “mirror imaging” (assuming others think like us),  “absence of evidence” bias (failing to think about the data we lack)  and “survivorship bias” (judging data only with success stories, not failures).
