A big reason is psychological: It takes lots of evidence to convince people something unthinkable might be about to happen like major banks collapsing, a pandemic or actual fuel shortages.
Another culprit is our misplaced faith in Wall Street’s small army of well-paid seers. Five weeks seems like long enough for estimates of the damage from an energy shock to seep into analysts’ forecasts, but that isn’t how it works.

The new round of strikes against Iran will be devastating.
They will begin at 20:00 Washington DC time on Tuesday (00:00 GMT on Wednesday).
Within four hours, every bridge and power plant in the nation will be "decimated".
To avoid this fate, according to the president, Iran has to make a deal "that's acceptable to me". A component of the agreement should include "free traffic of oil" through the Strait of Hormuz.

First of all, any military commander given orders to start destroying civilian infrastructure in Iran should disobey that order, should say it, should not even quietly resign.
This is a time to stand up and make it clear that this is totally unacceptable. This is a violation of everything that the military stands for. It’s a violation of everything that America stands for.
Second, any member of the Trump administration: to continue in your position doing your job as Trump takes America on the course of becoming a criminal nation, a criminal terrorist nation, you cannot continue in good conscience.

Det är förståeligt. Sedan Orbán och hans parti Fidesz tog makten 2010 har de utsatt landet för ett postliberalt experiment som misslyckats på alla områden.
Akademiker har brottats med hur man ska karaktärisera Ungerns nuvarande styre. Det har klara spår av både kommunism och fascism. Likaså likheter med de samtida diktaturerna Kina och Ryssland, som Orbán både samarbetar med och betraktar som föredömen.

Vice President JD Vance criticized the European Union for allegedly meddling in the Hungarian election and endorsed Viktor Orban as a model of leadership for the continent.
Vance said "the amount of interference that's come from the bureaucracy in Brussels has been truly disgraceful" and encouraged the bureaucrats in Brussels to not tell the people in Hungary how to vote.
