Security “guarantees” for Ukraine are not clear enough; Article 5

The devil is in the detail 

Article 5, nato’s mutual-defence clause, specifies that an attack on one member is deemed an attack on all, and that each ally will help with “such action as it deems necessary”.

All of this is also tied up with the question of a “coalition of the willing”, spearheaded by Britain and France, that could deploy troops to Ukraine and planes to its skies. 

What is also not clear is what, precisely, a European force would do.

But if the force was attacked, or if Russia were to break a peace agreement and re-invade, how would the coalition respond?

Sverige kommer att bidra med 275 miljoner dollar, motsvarande cirka 2,7 miljarder kronor, till ett militärt stödpaket till Ukraina. 

Tillsammans med Danmark och Norge kommer Sverige att finansiera ett helt stödpaket med amerikansk materiel. 

Inkluderat det stöd som presenterades av regeringen den 5 augusti 2025 uppgår det totala värdet av Sveriges militära stöd till Ukraina till cirka 83 miljarder kronor.
