Around two billion people, roughly 26% of the world population, don’t have access to safe drinking water

An additional 3.6 billion people, or 46%, lack access to safely managed sanitation

Urban populations are at particular risk from water shortages, the U.N. said, along with developing nations, which often bear the brunt of the effects of climate change.

The global urban population facing water scarcity is projected to potentially double to between 1.7 billion and 2.4 billion people in 2050, from 930 million in 2016, the U.N. projects.
