European officials are making a diplomatic push to de-escalate the conflict between Israel and Iran after nearly a week of deadly fighting, even as Israel’s defense minister warned on Thursday that the country’s military would intensify its strikes on “strategic targets” in Iran.

Operation Nickel Grass was the codename for a strategic airlift conducted by the United States to deliver weapons and supplies to Israel during the 1973 Arab–Israeli War.
Meir issued a personal appeal for military assistance, which European nations declined.
Nixon, however, ordered the commencement of Operation Nickel Grass, to replace all of Israel's materiel losses.
Traditional European allies refused to allow re-supply aircraft to land for refueling or even overfly their territory.
Portugal seemed willing to help though, so aircraft were dispatched to Lajes Field in the Azores Islands.

Iran’s secretive nuclear site that only a US bomb could hit
Hidden away in a mountainside south of Tehran is an enrichment plant that is vital to Iran’s nuclear ambitions - and Israel’s attempts to dismantle them.
Israel may have achieved dominance over Iran’s skies but the Fordo nuclear facility - believed to be deeper underground than the Channel Tunnel connecting the UK and France - has remained out of reach of Israel’s weaponry.
Only the US is considered to have a bomb that might be large enough to destroy Fordo, a move that could dramatically widen a Middle East war.

We Can’t Bomb Our Way Out of This
Bombing Fordo — and whatever might come after — might not set back Iran’s enrichment efforts by nearly as long. There are hundreds or more likely thousands of scientists and technicians employed in Iran’s enrichment program.
Israel’s killing of leading scientists is intended to set back this effort, but Iran could almost certainly reconstitute its program within 10 or 15 years, even if the United States and Israel succeeded in destroying Fordo and Iran’s stockpiles of enriched uranium and centrifuge components.
Mr. Trump was right to start talking with Iran in April. He should not give up now.

Meituan alone delivered more than 200,000 meals in 2024, almost double the number of 2023. Drones are popping up all over the place. Last year they delivered around 2.7m packages in China (not including meals).
