Combat stress reaction (CSR), in the past commonly known as shell shock or battle fatigue,

is a range of behaviours resulting from the stress of battle which decrease the combatant's fighting efficiency.

The most common symptoms are fatigue, slower reaction times, indecision, disconnection from one's surroundings, and inability to prioritize.

"This is as fast as we can move. It's going to take six weeks" to weigh the options, one euro-zone official said, and others echoed his comments, according to one person in the room.

In response, some leaders from outside the euro zone asked,
"Do you have six weeks?"

WSJ   Sept 26, 2011

At the gloomy IMF/World Bank meetings in Washington this weekend, everyone seemed to agree on one thing, and one thing only. The European debt crisis is now by far the most urgent matter facing the world economy.

Not only has it already taken the Eurozone to the brink of renewed recession, but it threatens to envelope the rest of the world as well.

”The threat of cascading default, bank runs, and catastrophic risk must be taken off the table, as otherwise it will undermine all other efforts, both within Europe and globally”, said US Treasury Secretary Geithner.

He is right.

But there is still no unanimity on what exactly should be done to take take this catastrophic risk off the table.

Second,  it would involve using the balance sheet of the ECB to buy sovereign debt, which would be very close indeed to the direct monetisation of fiscal deficits,

something which Bundesbank President Weidmann specifically rejected last week.

Geithner Plan for Europe is last chance to avoid global catastrophe

Europe, the G20, and the global authorities have one last chance to contain the EMU debt crisis with a nuclear solution or abdicate responsibility and watch as the world slides into depression,

The threat of cascading default, bank runs, and catastrophic risk must be taken off the table," said US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner over the weekend.

"Sovereign and banking stresses in Europe are the most serious risk now confronting the world economy. Decisions cannot wait until the crisis gets more severe."
