English as a world language

English speakers do not realize how lucky they are. There's no reason to feel guilty about this, and it’s still quite possible to be unlucky in many other ways at the same time. It’s just a fact. 

Christine Lagarde has to speak English, and I don't have to practice my French or listen to a simultaneous translation.
