As the oil price spiralled to $115 a barrel at one point early this morning, word emerged of an emergency meeting of the G7 finance ministers.
Reports suggested there could be a 300 million barrel release of emergency stockpiles co-ordinated by the International Energy Agency.
The speculation alone was enough to temper the rise in prices a bit, but they remain much higher than Friday's close, and way above the pre-conflict levels.
Stocks and bonds reversed earlier losses and rallied as Wall Street focused on signals from the US that the 10-day-old Iran war may be nearing a conclusion.
The S&P 500 climbed almost 1% after President Donald Trump told CBS the conflict is “very complete, pretty much” while noting it’s “very far” ahead of his four- to five-week timeline.
President Trump told aides he would back the killing of Iran's new leader if he proves unwilling to cede to U.S. demands.
