Trump to strong-arm EU into splitting from China

Trade deals with more than 70 countries will hinge on stringent demands related to China, it is understood.

US trade partners will be told they must block imports of cheap Chinese goods, prevent Chinese firms from setting up shop in their territory and deny shipments from passing through their countries.

The demand was first reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Such an ultimatum will be especially painful for the EU.

The US is its biggest market for sales, but China is the bloc’s biggest supplier. The Asian superpower is also the third-biggest destination for exports like German cars, machinery and pharmaceuticals.
