Paris will approach 30C on Friday, the day of the opening ceremony

 


While Greece and the Balkans have been hardest hit parts of Europe so far this summer, many parts of Spain will also experience temperatures of 42C in the coming days.

Temperatures exceeding 40C for the past two weeks have boosted cooling demand, pushing up Greek wholesale electricity prices. 

The average price surged almost 73% on Monday to €219.28 a megawatt/hour, according to the Hellenic Energy Exchange.
