“We’ll bring inflation back to 2% by the end of 2024 or 2025,” Villeroy said.
“This isn’t just a forecast, a projection. It’s a commitment.”
Nagel and Villeroy urged a return to more balanced budgets soon.
“A special situation is a special situation, but at some point it’s over,” Nagel said. “The signal from fiscal policy must clearly be a return to the debt brake” and an adherence to European fiscal rules, he said.

Inflation Roars Back in the Eurozone With New Highs in Germany, Italy, and France
Eurozone inflation is getting out of hand. Inflation in France peaked at 6.08 percent and fell to 5.55 percent ion September.
October looks grim across the board.
Inflation in France soared to 7.10 percent, a new high. Inflation in Germany hit a new high of 11.60 percent. Of the Eurozone big four, Italy soared into the lead with a new high of 12.60 percent.
